scottish ancestry passport
I’m Australian and marrying a Scottish lass. Are we eligible for dual passports?
I am an Australian who has worked in Scotland on an ancestry Visa for 3 years. I am marrying my Scottish girlfriend of 6 years. We live together in Scotland.
What are we eligible for with regard to citizenship/passports in our respective countries?
Thanks!
You should stay in Scotland/the UK until you have ILR and then citizenship which makes you eligible for a UK passport or you could apply for a UK spouse visa and then qualify for citizenship – both alternatives will take roughly the same time before you are eligible for a passport.
Your Scottish gf/wife should then apply for an Australian partner visa which will give you immediate permanent residence if you have been married (or de facto) for 5 years at the time of application. Otherwise, it will be temporary for 2 years and then becomes permanent if the relationship is still intact at that time.

She can apply for Australian citizenship (and then an Australian passport) after she has lived in Australia for at least 4 years including one as a permanent resident.

Both countries recognise dual citizenship, so you will have no problems having two passports once you have qualified for the two citizenships. You simply need to always enter and leave each country on the passport for that country.
