mormon ancestry records

I am doing my Family Tree and having a great deal of trouble finding my Dads family. Where do i look?
I have used ancestry.com, One Great Family, CousintoCousin, National Archies adn am getting nowhere. Find them to 1920 and then lose them. Don’t have a Mormon Chuch nearby to go to to search records. Know NY Public library could probably help as they have a large geneaology library. Where else can i look?
