When you buy the Family Tree maker software and you have a free 6 month membership you dont get charged right?

Hi i bought the ancestry.com family Tree Maker 2010 platinum, and it comes with a 6 month free ancestry.com membership, and i was wondering from anyone who has bought this one, are the 6 months really free, because when i went to activate it, it has no total fee and thats fine, but it asks for your credit card number… why? and also will i get billed after the 6 months are up? will i get billed ever? anyone who has the same kind as mine, please answer my question, its the only thing stopping me from activating my subscription thanks and god bless…..

Hi! I don’t have the software, but, most of these free trials work the same.

They ask for your CC information so that when the free trial is up, they can start to bill you unless you cancel it. Most things are like this – just, as a general rule of thumb in life…

Read the fine print – they must disclose the terms under which they will charge your card. They should also provide a number so that you can cancel 6 months from now.

I usually send myself a timed email for 6 months from now, or, use a calendar program so that it will throw a popup at me on a certain date. The note will be something like, “cancel xxx today before they charge my card”…
