Can someone help me with the transfer of a GEDCOM file?
I used Generation 1998 and tried upload a GEDCOM to Family Tree Maker 2008. A message appears saying that the gedcom must be 5.5. Is there a way to: Update to my gedcom to 5.5 or to accept my FTM gedcom? Thank you very much for your help.
http://www.cyndislist.com/software.htm a slew of articles or sites, have to do with the software. I also read that 5.5 is the "new normal" that is supposed to be read by all programs. An alternative could be free download PAF www.familysearch.org, and see if it will not take the old file, and eventually to export it in a usable format. If someone has an old FTM which can serve as a "bridge" that could also work. I sent the page, so you can research and information relevant to you. There seems a mailing list for users of generations (scroll to the bottom of the page). Are you around long enough to familiar with the term "planned obsolescence"?? My husband says that some new refrigerators require an Internet connection. * Scrolling shiver me a note in my profile if it does not work, and see what I can do. bigdog-change thing just had a similar question / answer and FTM 2008.
