Housing Discrimination Process?
I have filed a housing discrimination with HUD against a property manager. it’s for race, familia status, marital status, age, ancestry . My complaint was accepted and had an interview with the investigator. It has been a few months now and I still haven’t heard anything from them. I emailed the attorney from HUD and he said that he has “been trying to get a determination to my complaint but it has not been made and they do not have a date as to when the issue will be determined”
I guess my question would be is what should I do next? I just don’t want this to be swept under the rug? and is there some sort of timeframe as to how long a complaint can be made?
I am not sure how a landlord would know your ancestry in the first place, but that is not a FA issue.
If they really are investigating this (believe you) this could take months. They need to find another person, also over the age of 45, a different race, who will pretend to have the same income, credit rating, and similar back ground as you. They have to be treated differently, and that is all documented.
However, if this landlord rents to similar people with your complaints, anyone over 45, your race, with Your Family status, and your martial status (does not all have to be in the same renter) they likely stopped the investigation there.
